Corrosion to top of tank left by thermal switch

Excellent site. All the tips have been very useful & I have already recommended the site. I just need to know the best way to clean off the remaining verdigris on the copper tank top. Small amount remained after cleaning off the white crystal deposits following removal the old corroded thermal switch. I don't want to use anything that may leave a deposit that will damage the new thermal switch.

I would just use Jif or something, however it normally isn’t anything to worry about, it is usually caused by the flux residue when the heater elements are brazed into the top of the tank.
