How do I know when to replace Thermostatic Cartridge?

What tests can I perform to know that I should replace the Thermostatic Cartridge?

There is not much you can do because it is a sealed unit however I would strip the valve off the wall and check that the inlet filters are clean and clear, also grab hold of the hot nut where the water enters the shower if the temperature is hot enough and steady  (The shower can only deliver what is coming in to it) and you still have a fault with the shower then it is more than likely that you have a faulty cartridge.
