On/Off switch broken but might be more involved

The on/off switch on my New Team 8.7 got really stiff this morning and I broke it in trying to force it round (hence this order). I've freed the switch up a bit (thought its still seems a bit stiff) by turning it back and forth with pliers but am concerned there might be a bigger problem underneath and that it may still be too stiff and cause the new switch to break too. Any thoughts on what may have caused the switch to stiffen up in the first place?

It is a fairly simple cam assembly behind the knob that pushes the switches on and off ant the far end is mounted in a pocket in the rear case therefore there shouldn’t be too much resistance on the knob.

The only thing I can think of is to switch the power off and give the assembly a spray with spray on silicon lubricant
