Thermostat

Hi I've just replaced the seals and thermostat wax spigot watching Barrie's excellent u tube demo for a Gummers valve I didn't quite spot which way round the thermostst spigot was located but have put it with brass to wall and wax end to outside, the brass spigot didn't appear to be very tight within the plastic fins of the thermostat, should it be. Everything works fine but I can't get much of a temperature its warm and ok but can't get it to be hot I've turned the floe handle fully on and indexed the knob to the left on the splines and appear to have reached my limit of adjustment on that. Is it just that the thermostat cuts off at warm? Many thanks for your help. Arthur
