Shower cut out and tripped the main braker

the unit cut out this morning, it seemed to be working fine but started to make a noise (like a boiling noise I think) then it cut out completely and tripped the breaker, I reset the breaker then tried the shower again, I got cold water immediately with the overheat light lit, then the overheat light went out, and the breaker tripped again and the water stopped. I replaced the TCO about 2 years ago but didn't replace any other parts.

From your description what may have happened is a micro switch may have stuck in the on position causing the element to overheat, blow the element and breaker also activate the TCO causing it to fail.

You can check the parts individually but if these things have gone wrong your best option is to replace the shower.

The easiest change over is at the right hand side of this page.
