I suspect that you have a micro switch that is stuck in the on position this is keeping one of the elements energised all the time so even when you switch the shower off one of the elements keep heating (You may be able to hear this it is like a kettle coming to the boil) this may boil off some of the water in the heating tank until a safety device the TCO cuts in and switches the power off to the element.

When you restart the shower this may cause it to cough and splutter a bit because the heating tank will have air in it.

Until you have traced and remedied the fault  make sure you switch the shower off at the isolating switch immediately you finish showering

Thanks to our friendly neighbour hood shower adviser we replaced the: (phased shut-down pcb) And hey presto it is working like new.

I had the same issue and resolved it by replacing the start/stop delay pcb (listed 15 in diagram) it cost £21.00 from McHendry in Seacon Road, Ballymoney and was fitted in 2 mins.

I was also advised to switch the power off at the drop switch as well as the power button on the shower as the damage was probably caused by a power surge. (Not unusual in Ballymoney)
