Thermal cut out

What does 2disc 50/80c mean and when does it open circuit. What happens when it open circuit?

The thermal cut out is a safety device to prevent scalding in event of the shower overheating if it senses temperature is too high it switches off power to the heating elements and restores power when temp reduces , unless it has failed in off mode in which case it needs replaced.

Redring mdoel 53-55820 worked fine this morning, but made a small noise when I turned it off. Tried it again 30 minutes later and all I'm getting is cold water. Any suggestions as to what it might be and where I should start. I was gong to buy a tco
