Pump fails to start continuosly with shower on.

Hello.

A friend has a CT50 Twin pump.

Turning on the shower and the pump starts intermittently.

As I am a retired Electrical engineer I checked the internal connections OK.

I assumed the pump was looking for pressure or flow. The devices in the discharge of hot/cold, I thought were flow switches.

In an earlier question, on your forum, they were described as reed switches.

I was checking each reed switch, with a multi-meter measuring resistance.

As I had left the supply on, the pump started when connecting to either reed switch (with the shower off).

I then disconnected both reed switches and bridged across either connections, on the PCB. The pump starts (with the shower off).

In my experience it seems unlikely that both reed switches could be faulty at the same time, unless the contacts are dirty, in both.

Can you please tell me if it is likely to be the PCB faulty and if you can supply one and the price.

Regards.

You are correct the outlets have reed switches operated by flow they are purely on/off switches.

It is flow that operates these switches therefore if you bridge them out the shower will think there is flow and switch the pump on.

If the fault is intermittent, then it may depending on the pumps age,  be a faulty relay or triac on the PCB.

Unfortunately Salamander don’t do any internal spares for their pumps, they are bringing out a range of spare in the early part of next year.

Have you though to check that the filters to the pump and the shower are clear.
