Shower wont run warm up

Hi

I have this unit installed in my house but dont know the installation or service history.

Currently the unit will not run warm but the hot infeed line definately feels hot. The temperature/flow lever rotates a full 360C from '6 o'clock' from off to full temperature but the hot supply does not engage unless the cold taps are running in both the bath and sink. This obviously means the flow rate is reduced and you get cold feet when showering! Also the boiler is recently installed/serviced so shouldnt be a problem.

I've been advised by a plummer to purchase a new cartridge but at £120 I dont want to commit to this unless I've no other choice.

Please could you advise if a service is advisable to remedy the problem prior to a new cartidge and if so how I go about doing it.

Thanks

Withthe Sirrus 1500 or 1800 series that in almost every occasion the firstthing to do is give them a strip down clean and lube and fit a servicekit, this will cure 85% of any problems and it is also the cheapestthing to do.

Ifafter servicing you find out that it needs a thermostat or piston, nothing is really lost because it almost certainly needed a service inany case.

The 1500

Theseal that shuts the water off is the seal that fits into the base ofpart 5 in an old valve this looks like a flat washer, it is in fact athick heavy ‘O’ ring,  this can be a difficult seal to fit.

Whenfitting make sure that all the old seal is removed and no bits arehiding under the lip, give the seal a heat in hot water and make surethat the seal is well greased before fitting, once it is pressed inthere can be bumpy bits on the face of the seal, rolling and pressing ascrewdriver handle over the bumps a few times can help to smooth themout.

Theseal housing is available which has the washer already pressed in iffor some reason you have difficulty fitting the new seal.
