This question is regarding Sirrus 1850 / 1850 Dual Shower Valve (including Sirrus Stratus 1850) - Shower Spares

Pressure increases and runs cold after 2.5 mins!

We have just had a new combi bollier fitted and now the Sirrus 1850 which has worked fine for 12 years is playing up. It runs ok for exactly 2.5 minutes then the pressure doubles and it runs cold for about 20 seconds. The plumber says it is the spring? he wants £400 to replace the shower. Any suggestions please?

With the Sirrus 1800 series that in almost every occasion thefirst thing to do is give them a strip down clean and lube and fit a servicekit, this will cure 85% of any problems and it is also the cheapest thing todo.

If after servicing you find out that it needs a thermostat or piston,nothing is really lost because it almost certainly needed a service in anycase.

Then again it may be the boiler that needs adjusting.


To check whether you have a boiler or shower fault.

Turn the shower on as usual, try and get a hold of the pipe going tothe shower, if you can’t get to the pipe at the shower you may be able to get toit as it leaves the boiler.

What ever the temperature is on/in this pipe, the shower can neverget any hotter than that (So if the temperature is cool then something then atthe boiler is not allowing the water to heat up enough)

The other fault is wide variations in thetemperature of the water leaving the boiler.

A thermostatic shower valve should be able to even out smallvariations in temperature however if you have large variations then you have aboiler fault.
