Thermostat number 5

I have just stripped the shower to fit the seal kit and all was going well but now the thermostat is not working properly.the item number 5 fell out so I may have put it back wrong.Should the copper bit. Go in the cartridge or into the spring bit ?

The "copper" bit www.showerdoc.com/GUM-SK740013-Sirrus-Thermostat-(for-Use-With-Old-Metal-Piston)-SK740013 fits rubber part first into the cartridge, the shuttle fits onto this, then the spring fits onto the shuttle, as per the diagram above.
