Leaking and cross-contamination

Hi there,

This shower was working perfectly, until it slowly started not sealing completely (when closing the showerhead tap) and water was always dripping out. It gradually continued to get worse.

I called in a plumber (a very unreliable one) who replaced the o-ring that goes inside the cartridge part of this shower. It temporary fixed the problem, but added a new one: the cold water was now crossing onto the hot water feed, and I get a lot of pressure on the hot water side, and the temperature is a lot lower - on any hot-water tap in the house.

If I open the cold water tap in the shower fully, all hot water taps in the house go back into being fully hot, and with lower pressure (as it used to be). I have no doubt that the shower is to blame.

On top of that, the showerhead is again not sealing properly...

Question: what should I look for in the shower (cartdridge and thermostat/piston parts) to identify the cross-contamination fault fault?

Would replacing the cartdridge and piston parts likely fix both problems?

Thanks.

I can’t think what the problem is clearly the plumber must have done something to cause the fault.

I guess your two options are to fit a new seal kit or a new cartridge.

The thermostat and piston shouldn’t cause cross flow unless it is damaged or fitted incorrectly

This is an exploded drawing of your valve only with different knobs.
