Refitting cartridge problem

I've just fitted a replacement cartridge I bought from you last week. The big problem I had was that when I tried to re-screw the cartridge with the plastic piston into the barrel, it proved impossible to get the screw thread to catch (it looks so easy on the video). It screwed in easy enough without the piston, so there is no problem with the thread. Eventually, I tried it with the old metal piston in place of the new plastic one, and that combination worked, so I have had to go along with that for the moment. Is there a knack for getting a new cylinder with the plastic piston back into an old barrel? (Note: I am using the slim thermostat designed for use with the plastic piston). Thankyou.

Plenty of lubrication and patience may work.
