Which pump.

Hello, as part of a complete bathroom refit I am looking to replace my Mira event xs with a new shower. The problem is this, I understand from reading various articles that pumps should not be placed in the loft.

I have a dedicated 15mm hot feed from the top of a new hot water cylinder on the landing (airing cupboard via a warix or surry flange, and a dedicated cold water feed from the cold water storage tank, again 15mm, I have no space in the airing cupboard and therefore wanted to place a pump directly above the bathroom in the loft space, what pump if any would you recommend. I dont want massive pressure just an acceptable / decent shower, my hot water tank is 900x450. Thank you

The reasons that manufacturers do not recommend pumps in the loft are.

First the head different manufacturers have different sizes however the vertical distance between the bottom of the cold water storage tank and the top of the pump some are as little as 100mm however to ensure the pump works properly I would recommend 500mm that is unless you are using a universal pump (Negative Head)

The other and more important reasons are that the possibility of the pump freezing in winter, the problem is if you insulate the pump then there will not be enough air round it to cool it.

Having said all that, it can be a case of, needs must, so to some extent it is down to you or your plumber.

Re your choice of pump the Shower mate is an excellent good quality pump and 1.8 bar ideal for pressure.
