Hi I have a Stuart Turner st55 pump that just humms lightly when the water is turned on! Pcb looks fine , can't see any scoring ,arcing etc , would capacitor be a common issue on this model?

Yes the Capacitor is often the problem have a careful look at it when they are faulty they are often but not always slightly misshapen careful not to touch the contacts
