Safety

Hi - are there any safety implications of using this in a shower valve around the cartridge? Obviously the water could in principle leach chemicals out that would then get in eyes, on skin etc. (Piston sticks and is better when I clean the copper ring it fits in, but that only lasts about 6 months - is Siicone Grease the right approach? It's a Gummer 1500 thermostat). Thanks
