My shower is working perfectly if we leave the outside chrome cover off - which makes me think it is not the thermostatic cartridge but the temperature adjustment cartridge? Without the chrome cover it works as usual but there is no scald protection - once you put the chrome cover back on, the range of movement is restricted and hot water only available at the extreme end?

Sorry to be a pain but I want to order the right part!

I think that your problem may be just the assembly of thefront part of the cartridge IE getting the knobs in the correct orientation.

Have a look at this under the calibration section (9)
