Daft question, but does this shower actually heat the water or just pump and mix water from the CH system? If just pumping and mixing can i get something nicer to look at to replace it? i.e. a thermostatic bar mixer with some sort of remote pump

No this does not heat the water.

Yes you could have a mixer/bar mixer with a remote pump, but this would require additional plumbing.
