High pitch 'whistle' during use

Our Shower installation is 14 years old and we live in a hard water area.

For some time now the shower makes a high pitch whistle when in use. Moving the flow knob alters the pitch and turning the water temperature to cold stops the noise. If we have the water flow low and the water at the desired temperature the noise is almost eliminated. but the flow then is pretty rubbish!

The system was flushed about 4 years ago and the then dirty filters replaced.

Suggestions please? Many thanks.

It is pressure differential that is causing the noise normally high pressure on the cold and low on the hot.

A new cartridge may help this or fitting a pressure reducing valve on which ever has the higher pressure.
