triton opal 2 electric shower

we have a triton opal2 9.5 electric shower. today it made a bang noise when switched on so turned it off, switched it on a few minutes later and it gave out a very strong smell of burning do you know what would cause this, can we replace a part or will the whole unit need replacing.

Take off the front cover and make visual inspection to see what is overheating. Once you have established the fault the link below will take you to then parts list and you can order part needed online.
