Leak

water flows from the pressure relief outlet when the shower is turned on.

The pressure relief device has blown.

It’s a safety device on the bottom of the heating tank or outlet pipe

It is fairly easy to replace however there is usually something that causes it to blow,

often a kink in the hose or the showerhead is blocked, so check this before fitting the new PRD.

This is a simple job, the 'valve' being a very basic item secured by two screws. The only problem is that a screwdriver cannot be aimed directly at the inner screw. I solved this problem by using a sharp chisel to scrape away some of the casing, thus enlarging the aperture already present - the alternative inlet for the water pipe. Now that a screwdriver can be used efficiently the task is very straight forward. Adapt the instructions that come with the replacement valve particularly concerning restarting the shower.
