Triton Rapide 1 electric shower

The temperature of the water does not change anymore, turning the heat controller does nothing. This happened after the shower was out of use for a month. Would fitting a new stabiliser valve assembly cure this? As we have scale in the water, could this be a cause? The water flow is quite good though, which made me think that would not be the problem here. However, is it possible to take the heat-element part to descale?

Some people have tried to descale the heating can, but this has usually added to problems rather than solving them.
Replacing the stabiliser valve is the likely solution to this fault.
