Burnt cable

I have a triton opal II which we fitted a few years ago and the temperature of the water has been going up and down for about a month now. I removed the front cover to confirm water inlet point and found that the cable from the connector block to the TCO had the insulation burnt off close to the TCO and similar fault on the thin cable to the panel that was fed from the same spade connector. The spade connector rivet is very loose allowing I presume a hit or miss of current flow and the and the obvious arcing/heat generation. Is this a common fault with this shower? In your opinion could the replacement of the TCO cure this. I appreciate that without the components being in front of you this is a broad guess.

I would first check if the TCO is faulty and if not tighten the screw and repair the insulation.
As far as it going hotand cold,

the things to check firstare:

1 That the main valve cominginto your house is fully open.

2 Then check that the valve on the line to the shower isfully open.

If these valvesare not fully open then there may not be enough water getting to your shower to cool it properly the overheatsafety device will turn the power offuntil it cools Then it all starts again

Make sure that the shower head isclean and clear, that the hose isn’t kinked (this can happen just behind thehand set where it is difficult to see) also check the inside of the hosealthough it can look OK on the outside it could have collapsed internally

The other possibility is a faultyflow/stabilizer valve not allowing the correct amount of water into the shower.

A rough check is to remove theshower head turn temperature control to fully hot the water coming out of thehose should be a bit more than a dribble then turn to fully cold and it shouldbe coming out at full flow.

Ifthere is not much difference between the two then you could have a faulty flowvalve.

Carry out this checkafter you check the inlet valves.

Also as it is a Triton have a look at the outlet TCO

The outlet Thermal Cut Outthis is a black disk with two wires going to it and it is mounted on the out letpipe (The bit between the heating tank and thehose)

Examine theconnections closely if you see any discoloration / signs of overheating then theTCO needs replaced.

Open / close the safety device that allows power throughto the elements
