Dripping Triton Shower

Over the last year or so, the slide valve on our built-in Triton Thames Concentric was getting increasingly harder to close off ie needing more and more force to close it. About three months ago we couldn't get it fully closed. Having reviewed the diagram on your website, we ordered both a new slide valve and, as a failsafe, we also ordered a new thermo cartridge from yourselves in case the problem lay there. You then dispatched them over the Forth to Fife in good time.

Rather than attempt the job myself (which I should have done) we got a plumber in to do it. I wasn't at home when he did it and my wife tells me he was unsure of this particular model of shower and seemed to struggle to fit the new slide valve. To my dismay, he also replaced the thermo cartridge which I was not convinced was necessary but stupidly I didn't make this clear to him. With £200 of new parts in it I consoled myself that we at least had a completely new shower!

Over the last few months, the shower has operated OK but I have never been convinced by the operation of the slide valve - it has always felt a bit "spongy" to me. The inevitable has now happened and the shower has started to drip with the slide valve "closed". WARGH!!

I am about to dismantle it myself but would dearly like not to spend another £100 on a part, even though it would be keeping a local business going! Is it possible that the slide valve was never fitted correctly in the first place? Could it be one of the ring seals was never positioned correctly and is now leaking? Any advice other than buy another slide valve?

Thanks in anticipation.

First here is a copy of the fitting instructions as this may help.

And our web page.

There is not usually any problem with this valve unless the pressure is over 5bar

The mixer shower MUST NOT be subjected

to water temperatures above 80°C. This mixer

shower is designed for use with traditional low

pressure ‘gravity’ water systems, using a cold

water cistern and hot water cylinder as well as

for the higher pressure systems found in the UK

up to a maximum of 5 bar running pressure

The only thing to make sure of is that the parts enter the valve straight and that they are well greased
