Temperature control issue

Hi I purchased the replacement cartridge and front casing kit from yourselves and duly installed it as instructed. I am now finding that the temperature is fluctuating between hot and lukewarm with temperature control inputs having little effect. The actual temperature control knob feels loose despite me tightening the screw that holds it, and there doesn’t seem to be adequate ‘purchase’ on it. Any suggestions as to what to try? Might I just need a new temp control knob to fit the new spindle? Thanks for your help

Sorry but a couple of the obvious questions first, have you put thermostat and the piston in the correct way round the Piston should have the teeth facing out and the Thermostat should have the steel pin facing out.

Are you on a combi boiler? If yes see below.

Regarding the temperature fluctuation or cool running,

To check this, if you have the shower fed from a combi boiler, see if you can get hold of the hot supply pipe before it enters the shower or perhaps as it leaves the boiler.

If when holding this pipe the temperature fluctuates or goes cool, then the problem is not with the shower but more likely with the boiler, as the shower can only deliver what the boiler sends to it.

Disregard the temperature at the taps as they have a different flow rate.

Have you checked the video below regarding setting the temperature.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I’m not on a combi boiler and have viewed the video you suggested and had followed it. I can also confirm the thermostat is in the right way. My issue seems to be more that turning the temperature tap is not having any consistent impact. As I said it feels loose, despite me tightening the screw that holds it.

I only recent bought the house and I’m guessing that the shower was about ten years old before I changed the cartridge and front assembly last week. I should also say that the temp control knob was loose before I changed the cartridge and the temp override switch appeared to be broken.

Kind regards

Mark

There are two things that may help.

Check that the "C" clip that goes onto the spindle after the brass washer is fitted is in the furthest away groove.
Also temperature problems can usually be sorted by fitting number 1 "O" ring www.showerdoc.com/ultra-seal-and-circlip-service-kit-for-dual-control-thermostatic-valves-sasfor
