Removing nut to change cartridge

It is very difficult to remove the nut holding this cartridge in place. Is there a tool or socket available for the job.

These cartridges are usually held in by two types of nut.

Depending on the type that you have , a pair of "foot prints" or a pair of long nosed pliers maybe the answer.
